Issue:
A customer is setting up a Contera system and has questions regarding how the Ethernet and PoE interfaces are setup.
Note: Contera does not provide DHCP server functionality.
Resolution:
-
Built-in PoE ports use reserved addresses (these cannot be changed).
- 192.168.50.1 (internal communication)
- 192.168.50.2 (internal communication)
- 192.168.50.11 - 26 (reserved for cameras connected to these ports). Any cameras plugged into these ports must use the 192.168.50.x scheme.
-
Note: If the front panel has POE LED'S the POE ports and the Camera port IP address will be 192.168.51.11-256 and can not be changed.
- Ensure any 3rd party cameras are ONVIF Profile S or greater and that ONVIF is enabled on the camera web page.
- In Setup>Network Configuration>Plug And Play tab Ensure "Plug and Play Options" is enabled for built-in POE.
-
Client Port
- Used to connect to the customer's Ethernet network.
- This port is DHCP by default. This can be set statically.
Note: IP address detected can be verified in Network configuration>Adapter> Client
-
Camera Port (Not available if the front panel has POE LEDS)
- Default: 192.168.51.1 / 255.255.255.0
- This can be set statically.
- Customer must provide their own switch.
Camera placement is up to the discretion of the customer. They have 3 options.
- They can plug the cameras directly into the built-in PoE switch if their model supports it. (Camera can be set to DHCP or be statically set to the 192.168.50.x scheme).
- They can provide their own PoE switch and plug it into the camera port. The cameras will then plug into this PoE switch.
- They will need to provide DHCP or statically address the cameras.
- The customer can plug the cameras directly into their Ethernet network provided their switch supports PoE.
